CGCC wins $498,623 USDA Grant!

I am pleased to announce that my client, CGCC, is officially the recipient of a $498,623 USDA Distance Learning Grant! This was such a fun grant to develop and write. I'm incredibly excited and proud. It's one of only two USDA applications in the entire country that involved multiple states (Washington and Oregon).

This grant will fund a dual-credit distance learning program for students in thirteen rural high schools, with a special emphasis on career-technology and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) coursework. Two broadcasting rooms, from which classes will be taught, will be created on the Columbia Gorge Community College campuses in Hood River and Wasco counties. Rural high school students will then be able to participate in these classes remotely using technology purchased with grant funds. Classes will be delivered synchronously (in real time), so that the students can reap the most benefit.

This multi-year project will initially serve the region's 2,499 high school students and will eventually be expanded to benefit all 8,096 students in the region's rural schools.

In the words of Oregon Senator John Huffman, ""Many rural students have to travel long distances to attend school. This investment will give students the ability to access classes remotely, helping to improve their quality of life and starting them on the path toward a college degree."

I am so proud and thankful for the opportunity to have worked on this wonderful project. Many thanks and congratulations to all of our community partners! This project will have a profound impact on students' lives.
